Gabrielle’s Restaurant

Gabrielle’s diverse menu includes choices that will satisfy all appetites and tastes. Chef Jason Groten’s recipes might blend Asian with American BBQ, or perhaps a grilled or sautéed halibut with fresh herbs. Chef Jason comes to us from California with a lifetime of ongoing restaurant experiences. Starting his career in a deli washing dishes he soon was learning “old school” Italian at Carmela’s in California. Jason attended the Culinary Institute in Farmington, CT, and then moved on to the Culinary Institute of America in New York, which included an externship in San Diego, CA. He is always searching for ways to expand his knowledge. He loves a simple sauté of fresh fish as much as the more complex artistry of butter-poached lobster resting on a bed of potatoes, chorizo, littlenecks, and grilled corn with a lump crab vinaigrette. Tirelessly searching out the freshest ingredients, Chef Jason is continually creating new recipes–many of which will appear Gabrielle’s ever-changing menu. He is usually the last to leave, as his dedication to excellence will not allow him to leave anything unfinished. Whether you’re searching out a light meal of a unique salad accompanied by a bowl of fresh soup, a gourmet pizza, the truly amazing baby back ribs, or a complete dining experience, Gab’s will indulge and delight.
Gabrielle’s is the centerpiece of Mauricio Salgar’s three Connecticut valley restaurants:
The Black Seal on Main Street in Essex, CT (860-767-0233) enjoys a tradition of great bar food and nautical atmosphere.
The Harbour Seal in Clinton, CT. (860-669-1269) is the trios newest sister, serving family fare with healthy portions and reasonable prices.

This is to lament the passing of the Country Pate, and Brussels Sprouts Hash — two of my favorite dishes. Just ask Deborah, Heather, or Diane — they will tell you I mention these items often.
